Why to choose an all-girls’ school?
“Men and women share the same dignity, and are equal in rights and duties. However, they have differences that affect the entire person” (1). These differences are evident in the way they learn, in the way they play and behave, as well as in their learning rhythms.
Nowadays we can state that the brains of men and women are different from birth, and that each sex follows a different development in the course of their lives. It has been proven that, during preschool and elementary stage years, “the cognitive rate of maturation is much faster or early in girls, and that they develop language skills up to two years earlier than boys” (2). Therefore, the achievement of girls is better than the achievement of boys in this educational stage. In secondary stage, when boys reach puberty, “they acquire a capacity of logical-mathematical and abstract reasoning, as well as a spatial vision, that is better than that of girls” (3). Girls outperform boys in terms of “their artistic sense, in the capacity to know people, in their gentle treatment, attention to details and in their adaptive capacity” (4). Single-sex education is an improvement to the education system, as it benefits personalized attention by addressing and empowering the characteristics of each sex.
Single-sex education is a very good option for parents who want to give their children a comprehensive education that responds to educational needs, ensures equal opportunities and higher academic achievement, develops gender-specific skills. Ultimately, single-sex education fosters strong self-esteem and the pursuit of personal excellence.
